NGO says parking fee unfair
JAKARTA: Consumer Protection executive committee member Irwan Sukatmawijaya said on Thursday that the newly imposed parking fee was unfair to consumers.
The new parking fee requires motorists to pay a 20 percent tax which should have been the responsibility of parking management.
Consumer Protection also criticized parking management companies -- including PT Securindo Packatama Indonesia (Secure Parking), PT Cipta Prima Chemindo (City Parking), PT Anugerah Bina Karya (EZ Parking), PT Autopark Indonesia (Autoparking) and PT Surya Utama Nusaparka (Sunparking) -- for increasing the parking fees with no concern for the interests of consumers.
The implementation of this procedure is also considered to be a violation of law no.8/1999.
Parking management companies increased fees early in June, but heated protest over the increase forced the city administration to revoke the hike. -- JP
