Newspapers 'disappear' in Manado

MANADO, North Sulawesi: Newspapers were hardly seen in Manado on Thursday, as people were still celebrating the Idul Fitri holiday.

Shops and newsstands were mostly closed, while newspaper deliverers were a rarity, too.

Among local newspapers published in Manado are Manado Post, Global News, Komentar, Posko and Metro.

Local and national newspapers, generally, did not publish on Tuesday and Wednesday, as they were national holidays.

However, many newspapers also decided not to publish on Monday and Thursday, without prior notice.

Due to the absence of newspapers, locals relied on television and radio to keep in touch with what was happening nationwide during the Idul Fitri holiday. -- Antara
