Newly-wed robber arrested

BOGOR (JP): The police have arrested a newly-wed man who has allegedly committed at least 13 robberies at various places in Cibubur, East Jakarta, and in Bogor, Cipanas and Cianjur in West Java.

Bogor police detectives' chief Comr. Budi Prasetyo said on Monday that Hotman Nainggolan, 31, was a member of a group of five who always drove a Kijang van during their operations and pretended to deliver a package to the victims.

The police said that the robbers would not hesitate to attack the victims if they resisted. They usually tied up their victims in one room and sealed their mouths with tape.

Nainggolan was arrested last week when he sleeping with his wife, Elfin Tobing, 28, in their rented house in Paburan village, Cibinong district, West Java.

Elfin said she did not know that the man she married recently was a robber as he claimed to be a public minivan driver.

"Upon learning the truth, she immediately abandoned him because she felt she had been cheated," Prasetyo said.

The police confiscated a television and a VCD player from the house as evidence in the case.

The four other members of the gang are still at large. (21)
