Newly-married man falls from train

A newly-married man was killed as he fell from an inter-city train in Klender, East Jakarta, yesterday morning.

Police said the man, identified as Sadi, 22, from Sukorejo, Bojonegoro regency, East Java, fell off the Gaya Baru train which plies the Surabaya to Jakarta route at around 9 a.m. when he was sitting at the door enjoying the morning breeze.

"Perhaps, he was sleepy," Sutiyem, 20, his widow, said at the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital's morgue yesterday afternoon.

Sutiyem got off the train at the next stop and returned to the scene only to find area residents and police near the railway track preparing to take her husband's body to the hospital for an autopsy.

Sutiyem said they had just married in their home village and went to Jakarta to make a living. She was staying with a relative in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta. (jsk)
