New traffic rule

JAKARTA (JP): In a bid to ease traffic in West Jakarta authorities will detour traffic in the Joglo area.

Traffic on Jl. Joglo and Jl. Srengseng is the focus of the new ruling, which will be tried today, the City Land Transportation Agency head, JP. Sepang said yesterday.

Jl. Palem will be a one-way street from the north, beginning from the Jl. Swadarma Raya crossroad, while vehicles heading from Jl. Pengumben and Jln. Srengseng for Joglo will be directed to Jl. Swadarma Raya and Jln. Palem.

A section of Jl. Joglo, starting from the Jl. Palem intersection, will become a one-way road. Only vehicles coming from the west will be allowed to use it.

Sepang also suggested that heavy vehicles such as trucks and trailers avoid Jl. Palem.

"The traffic detour will start at 6 a.m to 9 a.m, except holidays. The trial operation will start today," he said.

New traffic regulations will also be imposed in downtown areas.

Sepang said that there will be no parking permitted along Jl. Gadjah Mada from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m everyday, while there will be no parking on Jl. Hayam Wuruk from 2 p.m to 6 p.m.

Sepang added that there will be no parking permitted 24 hours a day on either side of Jl. Pintu Besar Selatan.

"The new ruling will be effective everyday. Holidays are an exception," he said.(sur)
