New tollway planned for Tangerang

TANGERANG: The Tangerang regency administration has signed a memorandum of understanding on the construction of a new 45- kilometer tollway, which will connect the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport road with Tanjung Pasir and Teluk Naga in Tangerang, as well as connecting with the Jakarta-Merak tollway and Serpong.

The road's construction, estimated to cost Rp 2 trillion, is expected to start in January and will be completed within a year.

The chief of the regency's Development Planning Board (Bappeda), Suryana, said on Thursday that in the memorandum signed on Nov. 9, investor PT Trans Indoduta Utama (PT TIU) would begin a feasibility study on the project in December.

"The construction of the new toll road is very important because we will also build a seaport at Tanjung Pasir in Teluk Naga district next year," he said.

PT TIU director Basuki Wibowo said that the company would be backed by Canadian and Malaysian investors.--JP
