New toll road segments planned
JAKARTA (JP): At least five districts will be affected by a planned project for a new outer toll ring road from west to east Jakarta and another from north to south Jakarta.
A source at the city's spatial plan agency yesterday said part of the outer toll road from west to east Jakarta would affect the Pesanggrahan, Kebayoran Lama, Kembangan and Kebon Jeruk districts.
The part of the project passing these districts will need 900,000 square meters along nine kilometers, or 100 meters per kilometer, the source said.
Parts of the Koja district in North Jakarta will also be affected by the new road which will link North to South Jakarta.
Earlier, Gandhi Harahap of the Directorate General of Roads, who is the director of city roads, said the additional roads would reduce traffic burden around the Cawang intersection.
The roads, scheduled to be completed by the end of 1999 will link up with the inner city toll roads, he said
The outer toll ring road from north to south Jakarta will connect a location in the Ulujami area to Jl. Prof. Sedyatmo in the direction of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. (yns/anr)
