New rights office gets 100 clients
DILI, East Timor: Only a day after it was opened, the Dili office of the National Commission on Human Rights is already swamped with grievances.
Antara reported that the office received complaints yesterday from 100 former soldiers of the Portuguese military who claimed the government had failed to keep its promise to recruit them as civil servants.
The office, opened on Tuesday in an effort to help dispel bad publicity about Indonesia's human rights record in the province, is headed by former prosecutor Ale Refialy. (swe)
