New public phones for South Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): I Nyoman Wiryanata, the head of the South Jakarta telecommunications firm, said the company will improve services by installing alarms to reduce vandalism attempts.

Alarms installed to magnetic card phones would alert the central exchange whenever there was a damaged phone, he said.

Wiryanata said thousands of the 7,976 public phones installed in South Jakarta had been equipped with alarm devices.

South Jakarta mayor Pardjoko on Tuesday inaugurated the operation of 125 public phone units in 25 shelters.

PT Telkom, the state-owned telecommunication company planned to install another 75 shelters in South Jakarta, said .

PT Telkom earned around Rp 500 million a month from some 59,000 public phones installed in Jakarta. (04)
