New phone services for Bekasi

JAKARTA (JP): I Nyoman Punia, chief of the East Jakarta telecommunications office, said here yesterday that his office will introduce the rural telecommunications system into Bekasi regency.

He said the system has been chosen because it is considered the most effective for rural areas and can be used to link two locations, which are some distance from one another, without cables.

He said that the new system will link seven districts: Taruma Jaya, Cabang Bungin, Sukatani, Lemah Abang, Cibarusah, Babelan and Muara Gembong.

The rural telecommunications system for the seven districts is designed to have a capacity of 720 lines, with Taruma Jaya, Muara Gembong, Lemah Abang and Cibarusah getting 120 lines each and Babelan, Cabang Bungin and Sukatani 80 lines respectively.

The application of this system will raise the coverage of telecommunications services to 19 districts throughout Bekasi Regency.

"We expect to provide telecommunication services to the other four districts next year," he said.

He explained that executives of the East Jakarta telecommunications office, whose operations also cover Bekasi Regency, held a meeting with regency officials yesterday to discuss ways to safeguard the operation of the rural telecommunications system. (hhr)
