New military leaders installed
JAKARTA (JP): Jakarta Military Commander Maj. Gen. Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin installed the new commanders of the First Air Defense Artillery Regiment and the Artillery Unit Battalion 7/105 at the Jakarta Military Headquarters here yesterday.
Lt. Col. Haris Patriosa was installed as the artillery regiment's commander replacing Col. Prijanto who was promoted to Chief of the Armed Forces Commander's Personal Staff.
Meanwhile Maj. Alva Avicenna Gandi Narande was named as the new battalion commander replacing Lt. Col. Budi Rachmat, who was appointed East Jakarta Military District Commander.
In his speech, Sjafrie called for vigilance and warned of campaigns to promote radicalism and western-style liberalism which he said were being staged by individuals hitching a free ride with the reform movement.
"Security in the capital is totally under control, but we should remain vigilant because certain parties are still trying to pursue their own interests," he said. (ivy)
