New magazine launched for upper-class women

JAKARTA (JP): A new magazine catering to upper-class women was launched yesterday by its publisher Keluarga Mandiri Sejahtera.

According to the publisher, Keluarga Gaya (Family and Style), to be published fortnightly, is targeted toward middle to upper- class executive women.

A slide show presented to guests at the ceremony, which took place at Fashion Cafe, said that the readers include "women who always spend their money at upper-class malls, have a special taste for good quality films and pay adequate attention to their husbands."

"We want to serve this segment of readers, which has been out of touch with other women's magazine," said Herawati Diah, its general manager and chief editor.

Okky Asokawati, its executive editor, said that to meet the needs of this group of readers,Keluarga Gaya exposes problems from angles which have never been discussed by other women's magazines.

"We see it from the intellectual point of view," Okky said. She did not elaborate.

The first issuing of the magazine was 35,000 copies and the publishing company said it will continue to be this amount for the first quarter of the year.

It also said that 60 percent of copies are to be distributed in Jakarta and its surrounding areas, with the remaining 40 percent distributed in 10 other major cities.

Keluarga Gaya is not a totally new publication but a new format of Keluarga, a women's magazine which stopped publication several months ago.

The main topics of Keluarga Gaya concern women's careers and fashion.

The printer of the magazine was not disclosed yesterday but the first issue carried some technical flaws. (05)
