New lawmakers begin term in September

JAKARTA: The 700-member People's Consultative Assembly (MPR),
elected in the April 5 poll, will start its tenure in September.

2/2003, the legislative body will hold its final meeting a week
before the new lawmakers are inaugurated.

The Assembly will comprise 550 House of Representatives (DPR)
members and 128 that makes 678 -- what about the other 22?
Regional Representatives Council (DPD) members.

"We are still working on the schedule for the inauguration,"
said Janedjri M. Gaffar, a staffer with the Assembly secretariat
