New infantry chief installed
JAKARTA (JP): Maj. Kaharudin Wahab was installed yesterday as the new commander of the Tangerang Infantry Battalion-203/Arya Kamuning, replacing Lt. Col. Amril Amir.
The installation ceremony was held at the Tangerang Infantry Battalion headquarters, with Col. Tritamtomo, the commander of the Jakarta Infantry Brigade/Jaya Sakti, in attendance.
Tritamtomo urged yesterday all soldiers of the Tangerang Infantry Battalion to improve their skills in preparation for safeguarding the SEA Games from Oct. 11 to Oct. 18 and the general assembly of the Peoples Consultative Assembly in March, next year.
"Skill improvement is needed to enable soldiers to take action as soon as possible if there is any indication of possible social unrest," he said.
The Tangerang Infantry Battalion, which is part of the Jakarta Military Command, played a major role in safeguarding the Tangerang area during the May general election.
Maj. Kaharudin Wahab worked at the Army's special force (Kopassus) after finishing his education at Seskoad in Bandung, while Lt. Col. Amril Amir has been promoted to commander of the West Jakarta military district. (hhr)
