New gallery for young artists

JAKARTA (JP): A new gallery intended to promote the works of young artists, Galeri Inggil, is to open on Wednesday.

Galeri Inggil, from the Javanese word meaning "high" or "excellent", occupies the first floor of the Wisma Paramita building on Jl. Denpasar in Kuningan, South Jakarta. The space was formerly the office of a bank closed down by the government.

Gallery owner Lilin Rizwan Halim said the opening would feature an exhibition of paintings by I. Made Djirna, Yuswantoro Adi, Supriyadi and sculptures by Dolorosa and Yani Mariani. The exhibition will run until April 24.

The gallery was apparently a solution to Halim's problem of where to store her vast collection of art works.

"Then came the idea of having a place to keep and show some good paintings," she said. "So we established Galeri Inggil and hope we will be able to present art works of good quality to the broader community." (pan)
