New directors take the helm of 'RCTI'

JAKARTA (JP): RCTI, the country's first private television station, introduced two members on the board of directors -- Harry Kuntoro and Nenny Soemawinata -- to the press on Thursday.

RCTI spokesman Eduard Depari announced that, Harry, who's also director and corporate secretary of PT Bimantara Citra -- one of the owners of the station, and Nenny, a former general manager of another private TV station ANteve, were appointed RCTI's president director and director respectively on May 18.

But Eduard said that Harry was only temporarily holding the position.

"The RCTI shareholders will later decide at their meeting on June 17 or June 18 whether Harry will be appointed as the official president director of the station or not," he said.

The TV station, which is run by PT Bimantara Citra and PT Rajawali Wira Bhakti Utama, recently dismissed all four members of its board of directors and appointed Nenny to temporarily fill the post alone.

The four dismissed board of directors' members were president director M.S. Ralie Siregar, vice president director and director of operations Alex Kumara, marketing director R. Hardiyanto and finance director Ishar Baharuddin.

According to RCTI, Nenny and Harry were believed to be qualified for the posts.

The station, he said, had received a recommendation letter of Nenny's qualifications for the job from her former boss Nirwan Bakrie of ANteve.

He added that RCTI shareholders picked Harry as he was considered a "troubleshooter" and always managed to solve problems immediately.

"He's a sincere man and hopefully, will solve RCTI's problems," Eduard told reporters at the RCTI headquarters in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta. (ylt)
