New Diponegoro military chief installed

SEMARANG: Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ryamizard Ryacudu installed on Wednesday Maj. Gen. Sunarso as the new Diponegoro regional military commander overseeing Central Java and Yogyakarta provinces.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at Diponegoro military headquarters in Watu Gong, Semarang, Central Java.

Sunarso replaces Maj. Gen. Amirul Isnaeni, who passed away from an illness on June 8. Since then, the vacant post was filled by Diponegoro chief of staff Brig. Gen. Salim Mengga.

Mengga has now been assigned to a new post as the deputy chief of the Indonesian Military (TNI)'s education and training command in Bandung, West Java.

Sunarso was born in the West Java town of Cimahi on July 8, 1950, and graduated in 1973 from the Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java.

He is a former Sriwijaya military commander overseeing the provinces of South Sumatra, Bengkulu, Bangka Belitung and Lampung. -- JP
