New Deans

Former minister of mines and energy M. Sadli (left), new dean of the University of Indonesia's School of Economics Anwar Nasution (right) and new dean of the School of Social and Political Sciences Kamanto Sunarto. Sadli attended the installment of Nasution and Kamanto yesterday as new deans of the University of Indonesia's campus in Depok, West Java, by University of Indonesia's rector M.K. Tadjudin.

Nasution replaced Dorodjatun Kuntjoro-Jakti, who has been appointed Indonesian ambassador to the United States, while Kamanto replaced Muhammad Budyatna. Nasution is known as an outspoken observer of the Indonesian economy. The public knows less about Kamanto, a professor in sociology, compared to his successor Budyatna.

Kamanto's students described the professor as someone who spent most of his time doing research.

Also yesterday, Tadjudin installed four officials to assist the School of Computer Science's dean. They are Tarzan Basaruddin, Aniati Murni Arymurty, Zainal Arifin Hasibuan and Eko Kuswardono Budiardjo.

Tadjudin will end his term today and be replaced by Asman Boedisantoso Ranakusuma. "Pak Tadjudin may soon join the new cabinet as minister of health," his staff speculated yesterday. (09/prb)
