New chief for Bukit Barisan

MEDAN, North Sumatra: The Bukit Barisan Military Command,
which oversees Aceh, the northern part of Sumatra, now has a new
chief.

Brig. Gen. Arie J. Kumaat, who headed the Military's
Intelligence Agency, was inducted on Thursday to replace Maj.
Gen. A. Pranowo during a gala military ceremony presided over by
Army Chief of Staff Gen. Wismoyo Arismunandar.

Pranowo has been assigned to a new post at the Armed Forces
(ABRI) headquarters as assistant to the chief of socio-political
affairs. The changes are part of the major reshuffle within ABRI
announced last month. (emb)
