New cellular service

JAKARTA (JP): PT Telkomsel, one of the three operators of Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), launched here yesterday new services allowing its users to enjoy telecopy service and on-line data communications.

A company director, Garuda Sugardo, said in his presentation yesterday that one of the new services, called Veronica Faxmail, will allow users to keep a facsimile massage in their voice-mail service and retrieve the message when they locate a facsimile machine.

He said the other service, called Farida, allows users to link up with the Internet.

To use the Farida service, a subscriber needs to prepare a laptop computer and a cellular modem from the Personal Computer Memory Card International Association, which links the handset to the computer.

Telkomsel also launched yesterday a special package offering Nokia Communicator 9000, a handset and organizer. (icn)
