New board for radio body

JAKARTA (JP): Minister of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications Joop Ave swore in on Thursday the new board of executives for the Indonesian Association of Ham-Radio.

Soegito and Sunarto became the association's new chairmen.

Other newly-installed executives to serve the association from 1996 to 2001 include Bambang Purwoko, M.A. Sambas, A. Sutedja, Joni Sutjahyo and Musa Sura'atmadja.

In his speech, Minister Joop urged the association and radio users to participate further in national development.

"Communications is very essential. We realize that there are still several areas in Indonesia which have poor telecommunications facilities. Radio communication systems are very helpful there, especially for the general election," he said.

He said the association must establish a good image and discipline in radio frequency usage.

The undisciplined use of radio frequencies in Indonesia has left foreign users wondering about the mess. (icn)
