New bar for music lovers

Jakartans will soon have another night spot to choose from.

Fabrice's World Music Bar, located beside the Senayan golf driving range on Jl. Sudirman, will open on Oct. 6.

Owner Fabrice DeBarsy plans to stick to the themes which have made his other bar of the same name one of Singapore's hottest clubs.

Fabrice promises locals a different sort of nightclub. "There will be no mirrors, no aluminum and no funny lights. We hope to promote a warm, cozy atmosphere through earth tones and the ethnic decor."

Bands from Latin America, Africa and Spain have already been lined up, and will alternate each hour with DJ music, Fabrice said.

"We are targeting a more mature market, people 30 and over who still like to go out but are dissatisfied with the city's other nightlife options," he added.

The Barbacoa restaurant upstairs is set to open Sept. 28 and will feature charcoal grilled fish, meat and kebabs in an African tree hut setting.

Asked whether the food will match the ethnic flavor of his bar, Fabrice laughed, "No, we don't want to scare people off." (brd)
