Network for environment set up

JAKARTA (JP): The Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), six mayoralties and regencies in Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi will set up a network for environmental management.

According to Antara, the network has been designed to promote an environmental handling system and to mitigate disaster.

"The network will be managed by BPPT in cooperation with Hans Seidel Foundation of Germany and the local administrations," the director of technology for the development and mitigation of natural resources, Aunur Rofiq Hadi, said yesterday.

Aunur said that the network, officially called the Urban Network for Environment and Disaster Management and Education (Unedme), would be launched on April 22.

He said that the buffer zones of the capital city, Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi had been burdened. "That's why the environment must be properly managed and handled in the areas," he said. (sur)
