Net finds 105 foster parents

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Pendidikan Acehnet Foundation has enlisted through the Internet 105 Indonesians living overseas to join in the local foster parents program and finance the schooling of poor Aceh children, Antara said.

Acehnet chairman Mawardi Hasan said that under the program, each participant donates between Rp 60,000 and Rp 75,0000 a year.

The fund will be distributed to orphans and children from poor families attending Islamic primary schools in Aceh, Mawardi said.

The foundation was established three years ago, Mawardi, who is also a lecturer at the Language Center of Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh, said.

Most of the participants are Acehnese who maintain contact with their home province through the Internet. (emb)
