NCB-Interpol gets new boss

JAKARTA (JP): National Police Chief Lt. Gen. Dibyo Widodo installed Col. Wayan Arjana as the new secretary of the National Central Bureau (NCB)-Interpol on Wednesday.

Wayan, 51, previously served in Indonesia's Interpol central bureau for six years with his last position as deputy secretary.

Like in many other countries, the local central bureau of the 176-country-member police organization here is led by the Indonesian police chief.

"I'll try to give the best of my best," Wayan told The Jakarta Post yesterday in fluent English.

Prior to being assigned at the bureau, Wayan served as chief of the Jember and the Banyuwangi police forces, both in East Java, and an instructor at the police crime investigation department training center in Mega Mendung, West Java.

He spent his four years at the Interpol's bureau as head of the Interpol department.

Wayan's promotion was followed with the installation of his predecessor, Brig. Gen. Ahwil Lutan, as Coordinator for Expert Staff to the National Police Chief.

Ahwil replaced Maj. Gen. Ronny Lihawa. (bsr)
