Navy conducts 'Sea Control 2001'
JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Navy will conduct a three-week massive military exercise around Indonesia's western seas involving 15 warships, several fighter jets and a large number of Navy soldiers.
Navy Headquarters said in a statement that the military exercise, called Sea Control 2001 (Dalla-2001), is due to begin on Friday.
It is aimed at improving the readiness of the Navy to uphold law and order in the area.
"The exercise will focus on the improvement of sea combat ability and law enforcement at sea. As we all know the western waters are prone to illegal fishing and treasure hunting, pirates and foreign infiltration," the statement said.(dja)
