Navy chief visits Japan

JAKARTA: Navy Chief Adm. Indroko Sastrowiryono is currently visiting Japan at the invitation of Japan's Maritime Self Defense Force.

The visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries, especially in the field of maritime defense and security.

Aside from holding a meeting with the chief of Japan's Maritime Self Defense Force, Indroko is also slated to pay courtesy calls on a number of leaders of Japan's Defense Agency and to visit several military plants, including the headquarters of Japan's Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) in Yokosuka, according to the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta.

Indonesia and Japan carry out military cooperation in the form of education, training, visits, exchange of students and seminars. Three Indonesian cadets from the Navy are currently studying at the National Defense Academy in Japan.

Indroko is expected to return to Jakarta on Jan. 26. -- JP
