Navy cadets to visit M'sia, S'pore

JAKARTA: At least 226 students of the Indonesian Naval Academy will make a series of goodwill visits to Malaysia and Singapore from June 27 to early August.

"The visit is actually the final activity the students, most of whom are in their third year, have to accomplish before being promoted as military officers with the rank of 2nd lieutenant," head of the academy's information services, Capt. Karynono said, Antara reported Monday.

Prior to their visits to the two neighboring countries, the cadets will also make a series of calls on provinces in Indonesia, during which they will apply and practice what they have learned from the academy.

During the visit to the Indonesia provinces, Malaysia and Singapore, the cadets will also promote the academy to the public as part of efforts to encourage Indonesian youths to join the Navy. -- Antara
