Naval cadets travel the world

SURABAYA: A group of 77 Naval cadets embarked on an globe- trotting voyage aboard training ship KRI Dewaruci on Monday.

Naval Academy spokeswoman Capt. Tri Widayati said the voyage would cover some 31,500 miles and last about seven months.

During their trip, the cadets will dock in Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands, Pearl Harbor in Hawaii and a number of other ports in the United States, Mexico and Panama.

Widayati said that during their American visit, the cadets would take part in the Sail Boston 2000 and Sail New York 2000 sailing competitions.

She said the voyage, code-named Kartika Jala Krida, was also aimed at promoting Indonesian culture around the world.
