Nautica targets higher sales

JAKARTA (JP): Nautica Enterprises, Inc., a New York City-based firm well-known in Indonesia for its sports and casual wear, launched on Wednesday its collection of polarized sunglasses and frames.

The 38 types of eyeglasses and frames, the first produced by the firm, are jointly designed and distributed by Marchon Eyewear, the designer of world-class eyeglass brands, such as Donna Karan/DKNY, Calvin Klein and Fendi.

"The inaugural launching of Nautica eyewear in Indonesia is held today at the same time as in South Korea," Marchon's regional manager Richard Golding told The Jakarta Post at the product launch at Kempinski Hotel in Central Jakarta.

Golding believed the country's nascent economic recovery would boost sales of the products, the frames of which are made of metal, titanium, plastic and a plastic-metal mix.

Rudhy B., the general manager of Optik Seis optical store said that the products would be sold at the company's 45 outlets across the country.

The eyewear will also be available at Lily Kasoem outlets.

"Hopefully with these new products, our sales, which plunged in 1998 and only started growing at an average of 20 percent beginning last year, will grow rapidly," Rudhy said.(bsr)
