National Police promotes officers

JAKARTA (JP): National Police chief Gen. Surojo Bimantoro promoted on Tuesday five senior and 38 middle-ranking officers as the corps introduced its new structure and ranks.

The senior officers were Commissioner General (Comr. Gen) M. Nurdin; chief of the National Body for Drug Coordination (BKNN) Comr. Gen. M. Ahwil Luthan; deputy chief of BKNN Insp. Gen. Suparman; chief of BKNN's repressive unit Wilhelmus Laturette and chief of BKNN's tactical response unit Brig. Gen. Ibnu Suparto.

The middle-ranking officers, among them three policewomen, were all promoted to chief commissioner, a rank previously styled senior superintendent.

"All members of the National Police must heighten their sensitivity in handling cases as well as predicting and analyzing situations," Bimantoro said in his address. (edt)
