National players shine in RI Masters
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia's national men's team still dominates the 1996 BNI Indonesia Masters at the Jakarta Hilton International Hotel after eliminating their rivals yesterday.
The country's number one player Andrian Raturandang, who won 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 against junior Djanuar Radjab Wednesday, beat junior Edo Bawono in group B to face Sulistyo Wibowo today.
Sulistyo, who defeated Edo 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, beat Djanuar 6-2, 7- 6 (7-2).
Former number one Suwandi surprisingly lost to senior Tjahjono 5-7, 6-2, 4-6 in group A. Suwandi, who won 6-3, 6-4 against Sebastian da Costa Wednesday, is to face Bonit.
Bonit Wiryawan, who beat Tjahjono Wednesday, beat Sebastian 6- 1, 7-5.
In the women's singles, Mimma Chernovita, who beat Marieke Gunawan Wednesday, overcame Lianasari Batubara 6-3, 6-3 in group B.
Eny Sulistyowati, who beat Lianasari 6-0, 6-4, lost to Marieke 1-6, 6-7 (5-7). Eny now challenges Mimma while Marieke is to meet Marieke today.
In group A, Wukirasih, who had to stretch her muscles to beat newcomer Vinca Rampen, defeated Nuraeni 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
Agustine, who beat Nuraeni, defeated Vinca 3-6, 4-6, to face Wukirasih.
In the men's doubles, the country's Davis Cup doubles hero Bonit and Sulistyo beat Suhendar Dinata/Samsudin Pare 6-0, 6-2 to face Edo and Sebastian.
Indonesia's number one doubles pair, Andrian and Suwandi, beat newcomers of Djanuar and Feby Widhiyanto 6-4, 6-3 to meet Tjahjono and V Ariawan.
In the women's doubles, Wynne Prakusya and Eny beat Lianasari and Mudarwati 6-2, 6-0 to face Agustine and Marieke.
Wukirasih and Mimma defeated Audra B and Zenaeda Sumedi 6-1, 6-2 to meet Suzanna and Irawati. (yan)
