National movement against terrorism
JAKARTA: A member of Muslim hard-line group Indonesian Mujahidin Council (MMI) along with senior figures from other religions declared on Saturday a national movement against terrorism.
Fauzan Al Ansyari, the spokesman of MMI, said that the declaration was made in commemoration of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States,
Christian minister Shephard Supit, Catholic priest Theopilus Bela, Buddhist Hartono Yusuf and Confucian leader Djaengrana Ongwijaya were among the signatories to the declaration.
The movement declared its opposition to any form of terrorism.
MMI is founded by Abu Bakar Ba'asyir, who is currently serving a prison sentence after the court found the Muslim cleric guilty of conspiring in terror activities, including his link to Jamaah Islamiyah (JI), an organization accused of orchestrating the 2002 Bali bombing and the 2003 JW Marriott Hotel blast in Jakarta. -- JP
