National holiday

The five-day week has been implemented for several months now, making Saturday a holiday in addition to Sunday. We thank the government for this ruling. However, what if a public holiday falls on either Saturday or Sunday? In this case I would like to propose to the minister of administrative reforms and the related institutions that if a national holiday falls on Saturday or Sunday, the Monday should be declared a holiday. The reasons for this are as follows:

* Every year there are about 12 national holidays. If any of them fall on Saturday or Sunday and are not transferred to the following Monday the workers are disadvantaged.

* In 1996, there are six national holidays that fall either on Saturday or Sunday. For example, the coming Idul Adha holiday (April 28, 1996), falls on a Sunday. It would be more advantageous if the following Monday was declared a holiday.

* This is common practice in the United States.

* We would all benefit from this. Among other things, offices could save on electricity, water and phone bills, etc. I hope the government considers this matter.
