National Archive tries to locate Supersemar

JAKARTA: The National Archive will continue to search for original documentation of the presidential order issued by then President Soekarno to then chief of the Army Reserves' Command Soeharto, as official proof of the transfer of power, known as the Supersemar.

National Archive head Djoko Utomo said on Tuesday that he believed the original document existed. He just needed to locate its whereabouts.

Djoko said he had asked M. Jusuf, Amir Machmud and Basuki Rahmat -- three people who delivered the order to former president Soeharto -- where the Supersemar could be.

He had not, however, asked former president Soeharto about the order, due to the latter's poor health.

Djoko said that there were two versions of the order, one from the Army and the other from the State Secretary. -- Antara
