Mutilated woman 'murdered': Police

JAKARTA (JP): The results of the autopsy on the partial remains of a woman found on Wednesday morning near Kota railway station in North Jakarta disclosed that she had been physically abused before being killed, a police officer said on Friday.

Quoting the preliminary conclusion from the forensic experts of the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital, North Jakarta police chief Lt. Col. Wisjnu Amat Sastro said her death had therefore nothing to do with an accident at the railway tracks by speeding train.

"She's 100 percent killed before her body was laid on the tracks," Wisjnu told reporters.

"We are still looking into the case. But I cannot say whether she had been sexually abused or not. That's all."

The unclothed remains of the still unidentified woman consisted of the lower abdomen and legs, a small part of the backbone, and internal organs including the uterus, intestines, kidneys, spleen and liver.

Forensic expert from the hospital, Zulhasmar Syamsu, earlier estimated the woman was dead some 20 hours before the remains were found because they were not in an advanced stage of decomposition.

He said the forensic examination team identified at least 10 gash wounds to the victim's abdomen and thighs caused by invasive weapons. (ylt)
