Mutilated baby found in W. Java

BANDUNG: Tasikmalaya police chief Supt. Makmun Saleh said on Sunday that residents of Sukamaju village in Manonjaya district found on Friday evening the mutilated remains of a three-day-old baby.

The police officer said missing body parts included the head, the left arm and its genitalia.

"I have ordered my personnel to investigate all women in the Manonjaya district to trace the baby's mother," he said.

Separately Manonjaya subprecinct police detective chief Pvt. Utama Hafid said the police had begun investigating licensed midwifes in the area who might have helped a woman give birth on Oct. 15 or 16. (25/lup)
