Music on FM

A new kind of music has come to FM: Western classical music. Well, classical music is not new but its presence on FM is. This must have delighted music lovers on the first day of October this year. It is a historical date because never before have we been able to enjoy so much music for hours on end. We are immensely grateful to Radio Klasik TOP FM on 89.7 MHz

Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Rossini, Berlioz, Borodin and many more were there. It was unbelievable that so much music filled the air in Jakarta on that evening. It is even harder to comprehend that similar music will reach our ears each evening of the week.

Radio Klasik has invited its listeners to comment. I think it is early days yet. Let us first enjoy the many music evenings in store for us. They will be such a welcomed change from the current TV programs which at times are simply awful.

There were some on-the-hour interruptions during the first evening. I hope these will not occur when Radio Klasik airs complete works lasting 30 to 45 minutes (a Beethoven symphony, a Brahms concerto). These compositions do not bear intermissions lest their structures fall apart.

My heartfelt thanks to TOP FM for its daring enterprise.
