Music festival for peace

JAKARTA (JP): A series of events, including a concert, will kick off in the Senayan east parking lot, Central Jakarta, Sunday, featuring, among others, musician Sawung Djabo, poet WS Rendra, and bands such as BIP and /rif.

The event, which is being held to protest the rampant violence in the country, will start at 2 p.m. with the release of 1,000 balloons bearing a message of peace.

This will be followed by a march to the Semanggi cloverleaf, where Rendra will read a poem for about 30 minutes, and the distribution of flowers in remembrance of the Semanggi tragedy, Antara reported.

The rally will continue to the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle, where a short play will be staged.

The highlight of the program will be a concert at the National Monument park, from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
