Music concert in Cirebon turns violent

CIREBON: A concert given by pop group Padi degenerated into violence on Saturday when spectators clashed with the police, wounding four people and causing dozens to faint.

Three of the injured were spectators and the other was a policeman, who was seriously injured in the clash.

The spectators who blacked out were mostly teenage girls jostled by the rowdy crowd that packed the city's Raga Bima Sports Center.

The clash was caused by gatecrashers outside the sport center trying to force their way in, even though they had no tickets.

Police tried to stop them by firing warning shots into the air, which apparently hit three members of the crowd, who then responded by pelting the police officers with stones. --JP
