Musi power project resumes

JAKARTA (JP): The government will resume the construction of the Musi power plant in South Sumatra after two years of work stoppage due to a presidential ruling to halt the project.

President of state electricity company PT PLN Kuntoro Mangkusubroto said the power plant was already 90 percent completed when the work was stopped.

Construction of the combined cycle 210-Megawatt power plant began in 1997 and was halted by then president Soeharto in 1998 due to the economic crisis.

"We only need to build the electric mechanic installation, which will cost about US$40 million," Kuntoro was quoted by Antara as saying. (bkm)
