Museum to host play on Diponegoro

JAKARTA: The Jakarta Historical Museum, better known as the Fatahillah Museum, in Kota, West Jakarta, will host a play titled Diponegoro: A Historical Reconstruction on June 6. It will be the third play staged at the museum, following Oentoeng: A Historical Reconstruction last August and Batavia, 1629 in 2002.

Museum head Tinia Budiati said in a press release the reason the museum was hosting a play about Diponegoro, a prince of the Mataram kingdom, was because he had been detained at the Town Hall by the Dutch colonial authorities in the 1800s. The Town Hall was later converted into the Fatahillah Museum.

The play will be open to the public free of charge, but audience members do have to pay the museum entrance fee. The play will begin at 10 a.m. in the courtyard of the museum. -- JP
