Museum for the late First Lady

JAKARTA: President Soeharto endorsed a plan yesterday to build a museum dedicated to the late First Lady, Mrs. Tien Soeharto so long as it does not aimed at making a cult of her.

"The museum is to honor her contribution to the nation's development," State Minister of Women Roles Mien Sugandhi said after meeting Soeharto to discuss the plan.

Mrs. Tien Soeharto died on April 28 last year. Her body was buried at a family mausoleum in Giribangun, Surakarta.

Mien said the museum will likely be built at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah that the first lady founded.

"She is a national heroine; younger generation must know more about her," Mien said.

The minister did not say when the construction will start. (06)
