Museum celebrates Youth Pledge Day

JAKARTA: The Youth Pledge Museum in Kramat Raya, Central Jakarta, is holding a series of events to commemorate Youth Pledge Day, which fell on Oct. 28.

Museum head R. Tjahjo Purnomo said on Thursday that poetry recital contests for kindergarten and elementary school students had started in May.

"We are also holding a drawing competition and seminar on national literature," he was quoted as saying by Antara.

The prestigious works of Indonesian writers and poets -- Amir Hamzah, Sutan Takdir Alisyahbana, Sanoesi Pane, Armijn Pane and Muhamad Yamin -- are on display at the Literature Works for My Country exhibition held by the museum until Saturday.

The museum on Jl. Kramat Raya No. 106 is the place where dozens of young people swore 76 years ago to uphold the "language of unity", the Indonesian language, and declared that the Indonesian people were united as one nation. --JP
