Murderer gets 20 years
CURUP, Bengkulu: Alamsyah alias Syah bin Murni, aged 23, was sentenced to 20 years yesterday after prosecutors proved his involvement in the robbery and murder of a family in August 1995.
Alamsyah committed the crime in Dusun Baru village, Rejang Lebong regency, allegedly together with six others: Zul Kopli, Awan bin Abunawi, Isman bin Misnan, Yaseri, Manbo, and Win, according to Antara.
The robbers broke into Hasanudin's house and took some jewelry and Rp 300,000 (US$126) in cash. They then killed Hasanudin, 38, his wife Iyem, 35, and his three children Pendi, Bambang and Ida.
The bodies were burned along with the hut. Martina, Hasanudin's 8-year-old daughter, was the only survivor of the massacre because she managed to jump out of a window and hide.
She was also the sole witness to the crime.
In a previous trial Isman and Awan also each got 20 years and Zul Kopli was acquitted. Yaseri and Win are still at large while Manbo died in a brawl in September 1995.
