Mura's 10m ton gold deposit
JAKARTA (JP): Gold mines in the Musi Rawas (Mura) regency of South Sumatra province have estimated gold deposits of around 10 million tons, according to the local regent, Radjab Semendawai.
Radjab said in Palembang, the capital of the province that the 10 million tons of gold deposits included those in the gold mining concession owned by PT Barisan Tropical Mining, a major general- mining firm operating in the province.
In 1986, Barisan Tropical secured a gold mining concession covering 95,250 hectares (3,810 acres), in Muara Tiku and Sukamenang village in the Musi Rawas regency.
The company's gold mining concessions were extended in December 1990 to 11,709.44 hectares (468.4 acres), with estimated gold deposits of around 3.5 million tons.
Radjab told Antara news agency the company is still engaged in exploration activities. (01)
