Mulia Senayan wins international award

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

The American Academy of Hospitality Sciences, the world's leading hotel rating agency, has granted the Hotel Mulia Senayan the 5- Star Diamond Award for its high standard of service.

Mulia Senayan's project development manager Mario Setiawan said on Monday the award reflected international acknowledgement that a local hotel could compete in terms of services with famous hotel groups across the globe.

"Of the thousands of 5-star hotels all over the world, less than 200 have been listed as award-winning ones," Mario told The Jakarta Post, adding that the likes of The Plaza in New York and The Bellagio in Las Vegas were included in the same category.

The agency hands out a similar award each year.

Asked where the award, scheduled to be presented on June 23, would lead the hotel in the future, Mario said: "It gives us more motivation to improve our performance, so we expect to get even better in the future."

Mulia Senayan was established in 1997 and has grown into one of the country's best hotels. Unlike other hotels of the same caliber -- most of which are part of international hotel chains -- Mulia Senayan is an independent one.

According to a press statement, the hotel won the award after going through delicate and intense inspections, with inspectors from the agency visiting to obtain first-hand information on the hotel, which included physical checks and the quality of its hospitality to customers.
