MUI slams TV 'porn'
JAKARTA: The Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) expressed concern on Tuesday over the use of provocative material on television and in print publications.
MUI also urged concerned owners of television stations and publishing companies to stop exploiting sexuality to prevent moral decadence among the country's younger generations, Antara reported on Tuesday.
MUI identified a number of television programs and magazines that it thought promoted sexuality. They were: Dansa yo Dansa (Let's Dance) on state-owned TVRI, Majalah-X (Magazine-X) on private station SCTV, Life and Love on Metro TV and a number of musical programs with scantily dressed women.
There was no immediate response from the television stations.
MUI is also planning to meet a number of government officials, including Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Jusuf Kalla, Minister of Religious Affairs Sail Aqiel Munawar and Police chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar to discuss how to enhance monitoring of provocative material in both electronic and print media. -- Antara
