Mugger mobbed to death

TANGERANG (JP): A man was mobbed to death by local residents of Pakujaya village in Serpong after trying to rob an ojek (motorcycle taxi) driver on Monday.

Witnesses said Anhar, 24, of Petojo Selatan, Gambir district, Central Jakarta, was attacking Ardjo Djayadi, 50, with a knife when a crowd gathered and beat him.

According to Ardjo, Anhar asked for a ride in the evening after attending a local ceremony commemorating the 53rd Independence Day in Ciledug.

On the way to Serpong, the man, he said, threatened him with a knife.

Ardjo tried to fight back but he was stabbed once by Anhar, Antara news agency reported.

Dozens of locals saw the fight and rushed to help the ojek driver.

Tangerang Police chief Lt. Col. Pudji Hartanto Iskandar confirmed the incident and said his personnel were interrogating several witnesses.
