MPs to discuss the Kyoto Protocol

JAKARTA: The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission I for foreign affairs has been inviting public figures and social agencies to meet with it and discuss the Kyoto Protocol.

The legislators are deciding whether to ratify the protocol.

In a hearing on Thursday, an activist with the Indonesian Forum for the Environment (Walhi), Nur Hidayati, said ratification would benefit farmers and fishermen, who could be badly affected by climate change.

The Kyoto Protocol was signed in 1997 by many countries concerned about the impact of global climate change. - JP
